Concept

The self-imposed challenge to integrate controller and motor has led to this intelligent positioning module.   The standards were high, because we wanted the smallest member of the ITK controller family to have similar characteristics to the rest of the family. This objective was achieved and ITK has demonstrated with the glossary termPollux controller that expertise and creativity can lead to new solutions.

Key features

Pollux is the most compact positioning controller in this power class worldwide. Its application in domains like microscopy and precision positioning provides an indication of the performance data of this controller: high resolution, low power dissipation, high constant velocity with low running noise.

Positioning

Pollux is a positioning controller. Two positioning modes are possible: a given absolute or relative position or a given velocity and direction. The Pollux modules can be connected and work independently. Nevertheless, it is possible to realise a synchronous positioning of multiple modules, using the Venus-2 synchronous commands.

Axis extension

Pollux can be extended, like a daisy chain, to up to 16 modules. Therefor, the modules are connected in a row, using the "daisy chain" cables.

Resolution

The axis modules are equipped with a 16bit DSP that can compute position input down to 1nm. After that, the signal is transformed into a rotor angle.

Versions

Pollux is available in different versions. These vary in maximum speed, torque and resolution of the stepper motor. Furthermore, all Pollux drive versions are available with gearbox. Pollux is also available in a box version without motor.

Programming

The program-controlled operation is realised via the command language Venus-2.

Programming support

To support the software developer, a free API (function library) with different sample programs is available. It supports all functions of the controller.

Operation program

We provide the program "motion manager" to operate the controller.
